New Year Resolutions....the new me for few Seconds

Few days to say goodbye to year 2015 and welcome 2016. For a lot of us, 2016 is a new beginning pregnant with a lot of dreams and aspirations.  Like every other year in the past, we have a mental or physical list of old habits we intend to drop and some  good habits we wish to adopt...

For some it’s to quit or reduce smoking, drink less, make more money, get married, win more contracts and business deals, save more, enjoy life, travel, avoid spending unnecessarily and cut costs, lose weight, gain weight, fall in love, break up, make up, drop some people, make new friends, and so on...the list is endless.

Can you ask yourself how many of your past resolutions you followed or achieved faithfully. Did you just make them for making sake as an annual norm which you don't want to be left out? Often times people resolve to be better persons, but these resolutions end with the old year and do not last longer than they are made.
This is article is not to discourage us from making new year resolutions because they are good as they make us better people. Every resolution is achievable if you set your mind towards it. We have come up with few tips and guide to help you transform the resolutions to reformations

First you need to be sure you are ready and the resolutions are what you want for yourself. Do not just make resolution or say it because it’s a yearly ritual or everybody is making theirs or you just need to answer someone who just asked you. Your will needs to be present for there to be a change.
Don’t go with the crowd.. don’t make resolutions that your family and friends are making, remember it is a personal thing. You need to think, reflect and dig deep to figure out that thing you need to change, improve or achieve and the why behind it, which may not be same as your friends.

Do not just wish or say it, make it work. Strategize and develop plans to achieve it. You need to burn weight, get weight loss gadgets or sign up in a gym or weight loss program,  start counting your calories, watch what you eat

Make one or very few achievable resolutions, the lesser they are the higher the chances of keeping them. When you make a long list of resolutions even the long list itself will discourage you…
Break these resolutions into mini goals that are specific and concrete and not just a generic vague resolution.

Tell your family, friends and loved ones about your resolutions, carry them along, so they can support you. They will remind you when you are derailing and also remove the tempting things. Some may actually laugh when they hear you at first but with time and seriousness from you they will accept it.

Always keep your eyes on the prize. When the going gets tough, and it seems that it is impossible and you are about quitting, remind yourself of why you made the resolutions in the first place and what you stand to gain if you keep them.
Do not carry over resolutions from previous years, whatever stopped you from achieving them those years may also do the same. Rather use those reasons why your past resolutions failed to your advantage.
Don’t wait until the new year to start making your resolutions, do it days before and reflect on why you need to make the resolutions, how your life is without the resolution and  the benefits.
A small backsliding is allowed but don’t use that as an avenue to let your guard lose, when you backslide dust it off and still continue because if you go back what you almost successfully changed may become worse. No sugar coating, the road to change is not easy but it would take your self will and determination to make it through.
Above all pray to God for wisdom, direction, guidance and strength to carry on

Compliments of the season… wishing you the very best of 2016. Have a fulfilling year ahead. See you in 2016...XOXO

Cheating Nature...A woman of all Seasons

As we all know, the harmattan season is slowly setting in with its signs, from the cold to the dry, humid and dusty weather. And just like the season has changed, we also have to modify our fashion and beauty regimen.  For the next few weeks of this season, we are going to be faced with the problem of what to wear and the beauty routine to observe to survive the season. Well, we have compiled some beauty and fashion tips to beat the weather and keep you looking flawless...

Luscious Lips : with this season comes a lot of dehydration and dryness of the lips.  Here are few tips to keep your lips moisturized.
  • Gently scrub your lips while brushing or exfoliants (brown sugar and honey mixed with coconut or oilive oil or some lip friendly natural oil)  to remove dead skin and increase blood circulation.
  • Rub any of the oil above or a good lip balm on your lips if you used brush to scrub.
  • You may  also want to dump your matte lip sticks, lip balm and stains and go for  a  good lip balm, lip butter or gloss to moisturize the lips when it get dries.
  • Avoid licking your lips this does more harm than good.
  • Drink a lot of water too.

Skin Beauty: our skin is usually one of the major victims of the harmattan period. Here are a few tips to still keep your skin beautiful.
  • Add humectants (moisture retaining substances that attract water from the atmosphere) to your skin products, a good example is Glycerin, propylene glycol, hydrolyzed silk protein, fructose.
  • Use and mix skin insulators(serum) and natural oil with your cream and bath gel; shea butter, cocoa butter, avocado oil, coconut oil,  almond and olive oil are good examples.
  •  For the light skinned ladies you have to be careful about the oil you add to your lotions or bath gels so as not to lose your complexion. Go for non greasy oil that doesn't attract dust; lemon  Oil, Vitamin E oil, carrot seed oil, emu oil, lavender oil, jasmine oil, sandal wood oil, cedar wood oil. Etc.
  • Drink a lot of water to keep you hydrated.
  • Do not use alcohol based cleanser as this saps all the oil and moisture in your skin.
  • Exfoliate your skin to take out dead cells and dry skin.
  • Do not use hot water to shower because it saps your natural skin oil and moisture, rather go for  a lukewarm shower if you can't use cold water
Feet Care:  You can conceal the dry skin in other parts of your body but a dry feet would give you away.
  •  For a good and attractive feet, scrub your feet with pumice stone or foot scrubs
  • Rub and massage feet with coconut oil, shea butter, olive oil on it
  • You may wear socks to lock in the moisture and give you softer feet.
You may want to do this at night because some of these oils are greasy and attract dust which may make your feet darker

Fashion:  dressing during the harmattan season is a bit tricky as it is  usually cold in the morning and hotter in the afternoon.
  • The first rule is to wear what makes you comfortable.
  • You can go for thicker outfits, long sleeves, below the knee outfits, long pants and skirts.
  • keeping a jacket, bolero and blazers  in your office or car can come in handy, this way you can  fight the cold in the morning with your jacket on, and take it off when it gets hotter in the day.

Always carry lip balm and lotion in portable containers for use in case of beauty emergency

And lastly don't forget to Stay Beautiful!!!

The Tongue Twisting Glamours.... Part 1

Have you heard people pronounce some of these brand names Louis Vuitton? Moschino? Common and expensive as these brands are, their names have been subjected to oral massacres and remixes that it leaves one wondering  what the correct pronunciation is.
Most of us rock these designers brand from hair to toe, ranging from caps, to glasses, watches, shirts, dresses, shirts, pants and other accessories.  We are extremely good at pairing them and matching them, we even get to steal all the attention in the crowd when we wear them. And when complemented and asked for the name we literary bite our tongues in an attempt to pronounce it,  or we use the abbreviation or just smile and shy away from the question.
It is just not enough to rock a brand  or wear the most expensive designer accessories and look good. More finesse is added to your style if you can pronounce the brand well like a native of the designer. No matter how expensive you buy the accessories, once you can not pronounce it well, it cheapens your look. We have taken our time to compile a list of the designers and their pronunciations... Lets see how many you knew  how to pronounce well before now

Just Before You React

Good Morning Ficeans. Trust you all had a wonderful night and you have started the day with a positive mind set.

I just felt I should share this article with you,  some of you would have probably received it as a broadcast but it is still worth sharing.... Read on

A little girl was holding two apples in her hand. Her mum came in and softly asked her for an apple; "hey darling could you give mummy one of your apples." The girl looked at her mum and quickly took a bite of each apple. Her mum was so shocked at the girl's reaction but she tried so hard to conceal her disappointment.
Then the girl with a smile offered her mum one of her bitten apples and said, "mummy,
here you are, this is the sweeter one. Read more after the pictures

This story may be basic but there is whole lot to be learnt from it. We need to take time to analyse stuff before reacting. Jumping into conclusions could cost us treasured relationships and lifetime opportunities.

So no matter who you are or your level of experience and knowledge, always take time to analyze situations before jumping into conclusions or even judging others because there could be more to what you understand and a reason why people do what they do.
Learn to give people the avenue to explain themselves before you pass your judgment.

Have a lovely Tuesday,  kindly share

Beauty Trick of the Day....How make your Lipstick Last Longer

One of the issues girls always face is the lipstick smudge. We can't smile or talk without someone telling us to lick up our teeth. We always leave our imprints on the cups we drink from, a mark on the faces and lips we kiss... we can't just be gone without a trace.

Well worry less, here is a trick on how to handle it...
To avoid smudges and retain your lipstick here is what you can do.... After applying your lipstick put a ply of tissue and dust a bit of translucent powder over it.
